3 doggies

Here are the last three Pet Portraits.  I'm still really liking the sleepy pup. I should get them delivered this week. Then if I find some extra energy maybe I can finish an encaustic or two before the move.

I'm struggling with deciding to move my studio with everything else or wait until the Fall and do it as one separate move. I am figuring once the baby arrives there won't be much going on through the rest of the year. And the possibility of studio time is pretty nil. On the other hand we'll have the truck to fit everything in. But I won't be able to assist, which makes me nervous. Either way I'll have to decide soon.

In the meantime most of my free time is spent painting walls. Lots of walls. It feels never ending. Although, I feel like I'm turning a corner and will feel it coming together soon.  And I certainly hope so, I am slowly running out of energy.

I hope to pull a post together soon to show the progress.

Loose ends

So much going on here! Why not add in trying to keep up with my blog again Ha!

We have bought a house and are currently trying to get it move in ready, painting, cleaning, shopping, painting, and packing. Did I mention painting? Whew. Oh, and we're expecting baby #2 in 6 weeks.  I'll try to give you more info about what we're doing at our new home to make it more us in another post.

For now I am finding maybe a few hour a week for studio time. I have 3 pet portraits that I haven't been able to get to. So, before I pack up the studio I needed to finish them. (I also have hopes to maybe get a few encaustic works done too.)

Here is the progress so far!

Check out the guy in the middle. I was a little worried when that was the only reference picture I had to work with, but I really love it now.

Ok, back to packing and maybe a little (studio) painting if I'm lucky!

*if this post appears awkward I'm attempting to post from my phone so having trouble tweaking it for viewing.

28 March 2013

A super productive morning in the studio!  I finished up some paintings that have been lingering.  (All three from my last post are completed.)  It was great to be able to work with the door wide open, I am so ready for Spring weather.  It was one of those mornings where everything seemed to work the way I wanted and all my surprises were good ones.  What more can you ask for?

I did try this week to work a bit in acrylic.  I just can't seem to love it.  Oil paint works so much better for me, the flexibility and drying time are perfect.  I used to use a drier for my oils. Now a days when my studio time is squeezed in around nap time and bed time, and anytime I can get some help, I find that coming back to still wet paint is a life saver.

I am anxious to get back to some encaustic work soon too.  That's next up!  Although I may need to replenish some supplies before that happens.

 "Chandelier" 30x40" oil on canvas

"Hot House" 24x36" oil on canvas

  "Neighborhood" 36x48" oil on canvas

"New Years" 16x20" oil & conte on canvas

  "Ohio" 30x40" oil on canvas

This last one was a little outside the box for me. It seems more representational.  It has lingered the longest in my studio. For the a while it didn't quite seem like me.  But I am happy with the outcome. I am curious to see if it's a new direction or a tangent.

Have a great weekend!

Spring Snow

So ready for Spring to arrive. But alas, a snow day instead.  I've had a few days recently to actually spend some time in the studio.

I have 3 in progress paintings!! Hoping to get to some encaustic work soon. But here are the oils that I'm working on now.
